Murtha's honesty wasn't about economic policy but about how he sees the world and, more specifically, how he views Americans living in western Pennsylvania. Initially, he called everyone there "rednecks." He's backed off from his blanket statement somewhat by claiming that he simply meant that "there's still folks that have a problem voting for someone because they are black . . . particularly older people. They want change but they don't want to see things go too far.

ers that all that stood between them and the American dream of home ownership was their penchant for froufrou coffee. (And a subprime mortgage, we suppose.) Now, of course, the message is different: Skip that latte and retire in style! If invested, the savings from brewing coffee at home and brown bagging lunch over the span of 25 years would be staggering, chirps a story in the Colorado Springs Business Journal.
Interestingly, the big personal finance glossies arent the ones espousing the latte-less lifestyle. (The most recent issue of Money suggests charging a latte a month to a rarely used credit card to keep the account active.) This time, its more of a local newspaper phenomenon, with skip-the-latte pieces spotted in The Columbus Dispatch, the Allentown Morning Call and the Chicago Tribune. The trend is so ubiquitous and so annoying that we found at least two money-saving-tip stories in USA Today and North Carolinas The News Observer boasting that they are NOT suggesting forfeiture of the foamy fix. Instead, The News Observer tells us to wear long underwear and turn the dishwasher off when it gets to the drying cycle and open the door to add heat to the room. If only Bob Cratchit had thought of that.

Recently, I had a fantasy football owner ask me a question that nearly stumped me. I know, weird, huh? Usually, I’m the guy that answers questions right away, with no hesitation in my voice – however, this was different, very different. You see, I’m not huge on fantasy QBs. I don’t believe in keeping them, or taking them in the first round, however, I met my match with this question, and my answer totally surprised me.

I regret to inform you that from this point on no one else will be able to type anything in a black font on a white background without first paying me a royalty fee. As of this point forward, I proclaim that this is my trademark. Have you no respect for copyright law? Cease and desist with your typing! I can’t have people confusing something I wrote with something someone else wrote because I used a black font on a white background. Confusion must be avoided at any cost. It could harm my reputation. Even though my name is on the piece, this doesn’t mean that someone wouldn’t just ignore the byline.

I bought my weekly copy of the K.C. Star Sunday paper last week and realized that they are now charging $2.00 per paper every week instead of $1.50 for areas outside of the 5 county metro. So if you would like to save money on the Star be sure to look into ordering it online. Check out the rates here. It is still only 25.74 for a 26 week delivery of Friday, Saturday and Sunday's paper.

artist on the mound, cunning and precise at an incredibly young age.
If I only read about his struggles and never heard him speak, I would root for him. Listening to him in an interview enhances my interest in Greinke; he does not spout clichés like other players trained by Scott Boras' minions. He is refreshingly honest and engaging in interviews, particularly compared to other athletes. Greinke's demeanor off the field makes him more human, helping me identify with both his previous struggles and his present success.
It is difficult to root for millionaires who were spoiled at an early age due to their athleticism. The late David Halberstam once described an athlete as "athlete-nice," meaning that the player was not a raging egomaniac and capable of some self-awareness. Greinke is "athlete-sympathetic" -- to the extent one is capable to sympathize for a multimillionaire, Greinke is a worthy candidate.
In a profession often devoid of sympathetic human beings, Greinke is a rarity. I root for him, irrespective of the name he wears on the front of his jersey.
