Sticky Post

Each person has a different breaking point. For one of my students it was United States Patent number 6,004,596 for a “Sealed Crustless Sandwich.” In the curiously mangled form of English that patent law produces, it was described this way: A sealed crustless sandwich for providing a convenient sandwich without an outer crust which can be stored for long periods of time without a central filling from leaking outwardly. The sandwich includes a lower bread portion, an upper bread portion, an upper filling and a lower filling between the lower and upper bread portions, a center filling sealed be- tween the upper and lower fillings, and a crimped edge along an outer perimeter of the bread portions for sealing the fillings there between. The upper and lower fillings are preferably comprised of peanut butter and the center filling is comprised of at least jelly. The center filling is pre- vented from radiating outwardly into and through the bread portions from the surrounding peanut butter. “But why does this upset you?” I asked; “you’ve seen much worse than this.” And he had. There are patents on human genes, on auctions, on algorithms. The U.S. Olympic Committee has an expansive right akin to a trademark over the word “Olympic” and will not permit gay activists to hold a “Gay Olympic Games.” The Supreme Court sees no First Amendment problem with this. Margaret Mitchell’s estate famously tried to use copyright to prevent Gone With the Wind from being told from a slave’s point of view. The copyright over the words you are now read- ing will not expire until seventy years after my death; the men die young in my family, but still you will allow me to hope that this might put it close to the year 2100. Congress periodically considers legislative proposals that would allow the ownership of facts. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act gives content providers a whole array of legally protected digital fences to en- close their work. In some cases it effectively removes the privilege of fair use. Each day brings some new Internet horror story about the excesses of intellectual property. Some of them are even true. The list goes on and on. (By the end of this book, I hope to have convinced you that this matters.) With all of this going on, this enclosure movement of the mind, this locking up of symbols and themes and facts and genes and ideas (and eventually people), why get excited about the patenting of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? “I just thought that there were limits,” he said; “some things should be sacred.

17 July, 2008, Plummer, ID The Plummer Community Action Team has decided to sponsor the Panhandle Polecats as part of their potluck reunion picnic in Plummer on Sunday Aug. 10, the last day of the Westside Rendezvous. The public is welcome to the picnic. PCAT will provide hotdog, beverages and condiments and asks attendees to bring side dishes and deserts to share.
The lunch starts at 1 pm. The Panhandle Polecats will play from 2- 4 pm just before the community singspiration.
PCAT is a community organization with a mission to provide volunteer services for the betterment of the Plummer Community. Prior to this spring primary election, they sponsored a candidate forum. They have done several clean-up and beautification projects in Plummer and will partner with the Horizon Community Vitality Committee and Community Pride Committee in painting some buildings in Plummer. The Westside Rendezvous is a project of the Community Pride Committee. PCAT jumped at the opportunity to participate in the Rendezvous and go for a class reunion picnic as an annual event.
Several members heard the Panhandle polecats sing at Plummer Bible Church in June and wanted the group to come back to town. PCAT will take up a donation at the picnic to help cover the fee but will be responsible for covering the additional expense. The Panhandle Polecats are “BLUEGRASS with a heapin’ helping’ of gospel and wild mountain tunes, with a dollop of country, old-time, western, and a dab of the blues for good measure.” This group of five siblings were raised on the Rathdrum Prairie and for four years have continued their good natured family squabbles on stage. They say “The band consists of Jenny Little - laying down a solid rhythm on the doghouse bass; Hank Little - the bluesman - on Dobro and harmonica; Molly Little on mandolin; and twins Austin (banjo) and Bonnie (guitar). All the Polecats sing at one time or another with Jenny and Molly handling most of the lead vocals.“ The Panhandle Polecats will be one of the highlights of the Rendezvous and they fit in nicely with the country and western part of the theme.

Americano the best top 10 >>> haunted house

1. To splatter blood on and use as costumes. Remember Lijun and Limmin last year? Or Zimins one with the organs? Such wonderful costumes can be made out of simple OLD CLOTHING!
2. Another use, to tie white cloth and apply more red paint as though it is a bandage. Its not explored yet but I think itll be nice (:
3. Black clothing can be used for walls too. Its saving cost, and we can use it hanging from the ceiling. We did some last year with RAFFIA string, cloth should be a LOT MORE PAINLESS.
4. Just for FLINGING AT PEOPLE I THINK IT WOULD BE SUPER FUNNY CAN. Imagine flinging your old Teletubbies pants at a customer victim. Obviously shell be freaked out by the unknown flying thing, but youll get great kicks out of this.
