Momail is a Swedish startup, founded in 2006, offering a free and global e-mail service for mobile devices.
The company has proprietary technology for optimizing emails and minimizes bandwidth usage for all mobiles. In addition, documents and pictures are scaled, rotated and converted in real-time. Momail promises to provide consumers with the fastest, smartest and most cost-effective mobile email solution on the market. Momails user base has been growing fast, and the company has been able to launch the service so far the Momail service is available in 14 countries and in eight different languages, while another 20 countries are in beta. The company also won Red Herring 100 Europe 2008 Award in the spring.
The Momails mobile solution is based purely on the mobile handsets own email clients Momail just sends the correct settings to the phone over-the-air. Starting to use the service is a breeze, taking just a couple of minutes. While the default mobile email client in the phone may not be a fancy one, at least almost all of the phones launched in the recent years have one, which means Momail is able to support all of them (they claim to support over 1100 models). The technologically more advanced ones may prefer using e.g. Gmail mobile web browser service, but this kind of simple email might be a killer one in the developing countries, where people may not even have email account beforehand. Or if you just want email to your phone now, without knowing or bothering for much more.
Momail announced last week that ex-Microsoft executive Kenneth Lundin has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, while Founder and CEO Roger Grönberg will focus on product and tier one partner development as Chief Software Architect and technology champion.

Elizondo took his calculations from estimates released by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Office of Homeland Security, which projected that 318,000 American travelers would cancel or fail to book trips to Mexico as a result of the passport requirement.
Given that some 5.3 million of the 21.3 million international tourists visiting Mexico in 2006 were Americans traveling by air, spending an average of US$798 per stay, the resulting US$254 million in lost revenue will amount to only 2.2 percent of the US$11.6 billion in international tourism revenues his country expected to post for the year, he explained.
Mexico’s Tourism Secretary added that the number of Americans who traveled to Mexico by air and did not have passports dropped to merely six percent by January 2007, in part due to an informational campaign launched in October 2006 by the Mexico Tourism Board with the support of tour operators, travel agents and other travel industry representatives.
The initiatives implemented or planned by Mexico to educate consumers about the United States’ new passport requirement have included news releases, micromedia flashes; information packets; consumer contests and events; and promotional materials, such as passport holders. The MTB also added the slogan “We want you back in Mexico. Please get a passport” to its advertising in an attempt to entice U.S. citizens to obtain their passports.
In addition to the Mexico Tourism Board’s efforts, destinations that receive large numbers of American tourists are also doing their part to educate Americans about the law. The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau has launched “V.I.P., Very Important Passport” program encouraging U.S. visitors to spread the word. The campaign will include posters created for high-traffic U.S. vacationer sites that include relevant U.S. passport information and the U.S. Department of State website address. They have also distributed hundreds of thousands of informational coupons about the new passport requirement, some of which are imprinted by local retailers with an individual message of their own, ranging from a discount to special value offer.
“Our campaign will reach virtually every American visitor vacationing in Cancun for the next three months,” said Artemio Santos, chief executive officer for the Cancun CVB. “We are providing tourism businesses like hotels, restaurants, shops, and attractions with the necessary information and tools to reach visitors to Cancun several times during an individual vacationer’s stay. This is a destination-wide undertaking,” said Santos.
Tour operators and travel agents are also strategizing to educate their customers on the new law. Funjet, one of the top U.S. tour operators for Mexico, has created an online program to inform travel agents on the new requirements and how to reach out to their customers proactively regarding passports. The program includes guidelines for organizing “passport parties” for consumers, designed to facilitate passport processing for people who have traveled to Mexico in the past with other forms of identification. Additionally, Apple Vacations has initiated a promotion for a free passport with the slogan, “You fly, we buy.”
The WHTI will not go into effect until 2008 for cruise passengers and 2009 for road travelers. For more information, please visit http://travel.state.gov/passport and www.visitmexico.com.

Not of these apply to every phone. At a minimum you will need the APN and either a Gateway or a Proxy. With a proxy, port 8080 must always be specified. If there isn't a separate field for the proxy port try entering the proxy address as 216.155.165.50:8080. If the phone asks for Username, Password or DNS you can safely leave them blank,
In June, T-Mobile changed the design of the T-Zones portal and in the process broke it for many users. There are two issues. One is that users of most non-T-Mobile branded (and a few branded) handsets have lost the links to CNN, ESPN, Amusing Info and ABC News. They should appear under "Web Applications" but don't. The other problem is that with some mobile browsers the link to "Web Applications" is visible but can't be clicked! There is a workaround for both problems. The T-Zones search function will find the sites if you search for "CNN", "ESPN", "ABC" and "Amusing". Search for, load and bookmark these sites. For Radar, Traffic.com and 4INFO you will have to enter the URL's (radar.net, mobi.traffic.com and wap.4info.net) manually, once they load, bookmark them too.
A word of warning, T-Mobiles network is slow. Although T-Mobile has Edge and my phones say that they are connecting using Edge, it feels more like GPRS speed. It's not just a prepaid issue, I've used T-Mobile postpaid it's just as slow. Still for the price, I can wait a bit for pages to load. T-Mobile is starting to roll out 3G, I wonder if prepaid users will get 3G speeds with a compatible phone?
It's really pretty cool that T-Mobile is giving away a subset of mobile web for free to prepaid users.  The sites are well chosen and cover the basics; news, sports, weather, directions and traffic.  The only thing I really miss is a way to check email.
It's unclear what T-Mobile's goal with free T-Zones is. They are providing a no-risk introduction to mobile browsing - creating awareness and buzz among pre-paid customers.  But once customers see the value of the mobile web, T-Mobile doesn't offer them an upgrade path, other than going to postpaid which isn't a realistic choice for the average prepaid user who spends about $23/month.  Postpaid with a data plan would more than double that, something I don't see many prepaid users willing to do just for data.  But I believe that T-Mobile could sell a lot of $5.95 unlimited T-Zones plans to existing pre-paid customers.
